1/2 Cup Moong dal (Split Yellow Gram)
1 Tomato (Finely Chopped)
2 Slit Dry Red Chillies
1 tsp Ghee (Unsalted Butter)
1/2 tsp Musturd Seeds(Rai)
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds(Jeera)
8-10 Curry Leaves
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder(Haldi)
1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder(Lal Marchu)
Salt To Taste
Chopped Coriander to Garnish
Lemon Wedges to Garnish
Wash and soak moong dal for atleast half an hour. Pressure cook the dal with enough water (3 cups of water), salt and turmeric powder. Atleast 3-4 whistles.Churn the dal so as to mix dal and water properly.
Heat ghee in a pan and add musturd seeds, let it crackle and then add jeera,dry red chillies and curry leaves. Add chopped tomatoes, salt,red chilli powder and cook the tomatoes. Once the tomatoes soften, add dal to it and let it simmer.
Garnish with chopped coriander and lemon wedges.
Serve hot with Steam Rice.
You can make urid dal with same recipe just replace moong dal with urid dal.
