Vegetable Momos

Jain Vegetable Momos

Serving : 10-12 Momos

Ingredients :

For Momos Wrapper :

  • 1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 1 Teaspoon Oil
  • Salt to Taste

For Stuffing :

  • 1/2 Cup Finely Chopped Green Peppers (Capsicum) and Cabbage
  • 1/2 Cup Boiled Vegetables*
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 Teaspoon Dark Soy Sauce
  • Red Chilli Flakes To Taste
  • Black Pepper Powder To Taste
  • Oregano To Taste
  • Salt To Taste

*Boiled vegetables includes Chopped French Beans, Broccoli and Babycorns.

Method :

For the Momo Wrapper :

  • Sieve the flour and add oil and salt to itย  in a bowl.
  • Add warm water gradually and knead the dough to a soft dough.
  • Keep aside for 30 minutes, covered with a damp muslin cloth.
  • Divide the dough into 10-12 equal portions.
  • Roll out each portion into around 75 mm (3 inches) diameter circle to make a momo wrapper.
  • Keep aside, covered with a damp muslin cloth.

For Stuffing :

  • Heat oil in a pan and saute all the vegetables on high flame for 2 minutes.
  • Add Salt, Pepper, Chilli Flakes, Oregano, Soy Sauce and Tomato Ketchup and mix well.
  • Remove from the flame and keep it aside.

Preparation :

  • Place a Momos wrapper on a flat dry surface and put 1 Teaspoon of the stuffing in the centre.
  • Fold all the edges towards the centre to give it a shape of a dumpling.
  • Repeat with the remaining momo wrappers and stuffing to makeย  more momos.
  • Arrange the momos in a steamer plate and steam for 10 minutes.
  • Serve hot.

  1. What you are doing is really nice.. Encouraging Jains all over the world! I’ve eaten Jain food all my life and I thank my Parents for it.. My Mom has always made all the Jain western dishes from mexican to chinese to italian, right from my childhood days, so my brother and I never felt we are missing out on anything! Now living in the States, after marriage, to get Jain food outside is difficult but not impossible! I love your site and commend you for what you’re doing in this day and age! Thanks!
