Gujarati Tur Dal

Serving : 2 person

Ingredients :

1/4 Cup Tur Dal

1 Tomato (Finely Chopped)

2 Slit Green Chillies

1 tsp Ghee (Unsalted Butter)

1/2 tsp Musturd Seeds(Rai)

1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds(Jeera)

8-10 Curry Leaves

3-4 Cloves (Laving)

4-6 Methi Seeds(Fenugreek)

Pinch of Asofoetida(Hing)

1 Lemon Juice

1/2 Cup Jaggery( Gor)

1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder(Haldi)

1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder(Lal Marchu)

Salt To Taste

Chopped Coriander to Garnish

1/2 Cup Peanuts (optional)

Method :

Wash and soak tur dal for atleast half an hour. Pressure cook the dal with enough water (2 cups of water).  Atleast 3-4 whistles.Churn the dal so as to mix dal and water properly.

Heat ghee in a pan and add musturd seeds, cloves n methi seeds, let it crackle and then add jeera, hing, slit green chillies and curry leaves. Add chopped tomatoes, salt, red chilli powder,turmeric powder and cook the tomatoes. Once the tomatoes soften, add dal and paenuts to it. Add jaggery, lemon juice and chopped coriander  and bring it to a boil. Add water if needed and let it simmer.

Garnish with chopped  coriander and lemon wedges.

Serve hot with Steam Rice.
